Adrian Muraru

Adrian Muraru is PhD habil. Assoc. Professor, teaching mainly History of Philosophy, at the Faculty of Philosophy and Social-Political Sciences, “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University of Iași, Romania.

He graduated Theology at “Veniamin Costachi” Seminary, Roman (1994); Philosophy (1998), Classical Philology (1999), and Romanian Philology (2001) at “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University of Iași, Romania. He holds a DEA in Philosophy at “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University of Iași (1999). He followed doctoral studies in Greek philosophy at University of Ioannina, Greece (2002-2008). He received his PhD degree in Philosophy (2004) and his habilitation in Philosophy (2019) from “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University of Iași, Romania.

He is coordinator of Editing and Translation Center TRADITIO, Department of Interdisciplinary Research in Humanities, “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University of Iași. He co-worked with Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg, Germany, as member in the Project “Monumenta Linguae Dacoromanorum”: The Bucharest Bible of 1688 (Regnum I, Regnum II, IV Maccabaeorum).

He is the author of the books Libertate și liber arbitru la Origen / Freedom and Free Will in Origen, “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University Publishing House, Iași (2006), and Influențe platonice asupra lui Galenus / Platonic Influences on Galen, Eikon Press, Bucharest (2019). He penned many studies and articles.

He translated and annotated several exegetical works of Origen: Homilies, Commentaries and Annotations on Genesis (2006); Homilies and Annotations on Exodus (2006); Homilies and Annotations on Leviticus (2006); Homilies and Annotations on Numbers. Annotations on Deuteronomium. Part 1. (2022), Polirom Press, Iași, Romania.

Also, he is editor of the bilingual versions of the volumes: Epiphanius of Salamis, Ancoratus (2007); Peter Abelard, The Dialogue of a Philosopher with a Jew and a Christian (2008); Nicolaus Cusanus, Coincidentia oppositorum (2008); Gregory of Nyssa, Against Eunomius. He is member of the Editorial Board of Chora. He has been awarded by the journal Cuvântul for “The 2006 Best Translation” of Origen, Homilies and Annotations on Exodus, Polirom Press, Iași (2006).
